Fish In the Afternoon

To do one thing today and another tomorrow

Interlude: I’m in the Woods

It is officially my fellowship year, which means I have to actually write my dissertation. I am certain I will still write here, but I don’t know at what rhythm. For this week, I’m in a cabin in the middle of the Ozark National Forest. I’ve restarted my estrogen and I’m going to spend a few days pruning in a clawfoot tub and watching the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS. The cabin has a library so maybe I’ll read some Annie Ernaux as well. Two squirrels were chasing each other on the back porch earlier and all I see out the window is trees. Beautiful. I am still very sad, but I am at least sad in a gorgeous, serene forest for now and instead of wallowing I can cook chicken cacciatore, watch the cardinals fly around outside, and read Calvin and Hobbes. It’s an improvement. I haven’t put up more pictures on Flute & Lyre yet but I will soon.
